Memories of a delicious past

It’s a happy Sunday, as what Nina and Abhay like to call it. They stay in bed till late trying to wake each other up and falling asleep themselves. But Nina wakes wide up when her long hair are caught under Abhay. Careful as a cat, she slides her smooth strands out from the lover’s paw and glides her long and lean body out of the bed. Nina looks prettier in the morning with her hair messed up, her face fuller and lips a bit plump. She admires her beautiful self in the bathroom mirror and is soon struck by the glimpses of last night. She wonders if she looked better then or now. Splashing her face with water she decides to ponder over this with her morning tea.

She lets Abhay sleep as she tries to sneak into her own mind. Kissing that girl from the bar, she realized that she was right about one thing. What she thought a few years ago wasn’t a coincidence. Nina has well-played her cards in the past. She has dated four guys, and all had something different to offer. Not that she had planned it out that way but she quite enjoyed trying a newer kind each time. All those relationships were different and as was the sex and the kiss. She walks back in time to revisit each kiss one at a time. Starting with the last, she frowns at the memory; he is pushing himself against her with his hands resisting hers from any sort of protest. Her last boyfriend was a male chauvinist who left no chance to make her feel disgusted with herself. Nina goes out of breath and brings herself back to the tea she had just prepared. She’s got nothing to do with him anymore and she will not waste even a minute thinking about him. It was difficult coming out from that hole but the ending was beautiful as she found Abhay waiting for her right outside.

Well that was the only dark spot from Nina’s past. The one right before him was a total charmer. Rich as fuck, he was amazingly soft and sweet. But that’s where everything went wrong – everything, literally, was soft! Rewinding to the kiss from where it all started, he assumed himself to be a king of hearts but to Nina it was just a regular passionate kiss. So why waste time at that. Moving on or shall I say backward, Nina’s second boyfriend was a Romeo at both head and heart. Their love was quite intense and lasted for about two years. He was the first guy she kissed because her first boyfriend was actually a pen friend. Romeo and Nina had it all right, they even thought they’ll get married and have a child. Childish as they were, they didn’t realize exams were coming! When Nina screwed up her papers, her parents gave their story a tragic end.

But Nina didn’t come this far to replay this list of weird love stories. The kiss from last night reminded her of her first – when she kissed a girl. Studying together and preparing for their next paper, Nina and Anisha were great friends at school. With past few years of close friendship, they had grown fonder of each other. They talked over the phone for long (long-phone-bills long) hours every night, waited desperately each morning to meet in the school bus, and felt sad each day when the school got over. The prep leaves made their situation even worse. So one day, Nina found a way out and convinced Anisha’s parents to let her stay with her for better concentration and better results. Anisha, super-excited to the idea, quickly packed her stuff and headed with Nina. They studied (tried to study) like good girls till Nina’s parents dozed off to bed, and then got closer to talk and talk and talk some more. It was like they had hundreds of years of stories to share. It wasn’t long after when Nina got all touchy, and Anisha seemed to admire that. Nina gathered some guts and told her that she wanted to try something. Anisha, by the look on her face, knew what was coming. She gave a hesitating nod, and Nina came closer, breathing heavy. Anisha closed her eyes and Nina reached out faster, unable to resist that feeling any longer.

Nina’s first kiss (that lived and lasted 15 minutes) was the best one till now. She thought that it was a coincidence but kissing a girl is something she would now like to give more thought to.

Upside down (continued)

Specky was so used to the attention by the opposite sex that it took her a while to understand and formulate a response to Nina’s question. She gave a dazzling smile that assured Nina of her weird side.

“Umm, I’m more into soft rock.” says the specky loudly, trying to be audible behind the techno beats.
“But do you dance to that or you just like to stay still?” enquires the quite interested Nina.
“Oh yeah, I go crazy.”

Bam! Nina’s thoughts get a vivid picture of what crazy can be with her. She keeps her calm, turns to her friend, giving specky some awkward space, hoping that she would take the next step. Specky watches Nina go. Slightly disappointed, she turns to her dancing group who suddenly seemed over-energized. Dying for a break, she heads to the smoking zone and lights up a cigarette. Nina is trying hard to be a good friend but her focus is stuck somewhere else. Nina doesn’t smoke but right now the sight of those lips sucking up to that cigarette seems highly tempting. Lusting for their taste, her lips are quenching their thirst with drink number three. By now, Nina has forgotten all about her boyfriend who has by the way become everyone’s favorite DJ. The only emotion she is concerned about is the twinging that overpowers everything when her eyes meet hers from the glass of the smoking zone. The smoke dies and hopes rise.

Specky wasn’t just bored with her friends; she was actually taking time out to examine how she felt around and about Nina. She was debating on her intensions in her mind – friendly or flirtatious. She doesn’t conclude, for it may kill the charm. She mans up and takes the next step.

“You don’t seem to be enjoying either.” She tries.
“I don’t know” there is a pause “I’m distracted.” Nina knows how to flirt.

The dazzling smile is back, demanding Nina’s full attention – and there it goes. The smile quivers, breath uneven, eyes dancing from Nina’s lips to her eyes and back. There is no stopping Nina now. She moves closer to her lips, specky mirrors the action without thinking, without controlling. They kiss and the world goes still. No music, no people, no friends, no foes, only lips delving in the softness and tongues discovering depths.

A bell strikes her mind, and Nina is suddenly reminded of her boyfriend being in the same room. She runs a quick glance and returns satisfied back to her. She apologizes but the specky still looks smitten. A sense of victory streams through Nina like she had made her kill. Specky looks at her hopefully, waiting for her to say something. In her mind she is deciding on phone number or email ID but Nina doesn’t seem in a hurry. She notices Abhay walking towards them, and regains her senses as if brushing off that kiss from her mind.

“Hey baby, you were amazing!” Nina slides her arm around Abhay and turns to introduce them to each other. “This is Abhay, my boyfriend and the God for everyone here tonight.”
Specky’s jaw drops. She felt like a loser and a loner at the same time. “I’m Shreya”.
Nina expresses her acknowledgement to that rather passionately, and chirps “And I am Nina. It was really nice” she moves closer to her ear, close enough to smell her “kissing you.”

Nina walks away hand-in-hand with Abhay, straight out of the bar without looking back while specky stands still again, staring at the couple and feeling like a cheater.

Upside down

Nina wakes up to a series of doorbell. Fiddling to find her specks and struggling to come out of her boyfriend’s sleepy but strong arms, she manages to get up to get the door. It is her maid, before time on a Saturday morning. Gazing her with hateful eyes she lets her in, and after declaring the menu for the day she plans to tuck herself back in bed for it’s going to be a long day.

Spring in this part of the country is not much different from summer but today is rather cloudy, and the air has a certain chill to it. Nina likes to put her heart into the tiniest of things. She plays with her boyfriend every morning, pecking him all over with tiny but passionate kisses; she likes spoiling him that way. But today was special for him. It was his gig night which meant that Nina had to look her best. She was all game to rule out the (over) dressed girls coming to the event tonight.

“These clouds could burst anytime now” exclaims the maid to which Abhay only manages to mutter “hmm”. He is a bit nervous, as usual, and is trying to come up with a new set to make people groove tonight. Well, he doesn’t mind even if his music is enjoyed pretentiously if not danced at fiercely. While he gets on with his music, Nina tries to strike most of the points from her checklist that includes (pointing out the most difficult ones) making the home look presentable and talking to her mom for half an hour amongst others.

Nina has booked the rest of her day with an hour’s workout followed by a long relaxing bath, and a waxing and haircut appointment. Abhay, however, has to leave early to set up his gear at the club and test the sound. He looks tempting in his all black t-shirt and denims which give Nina an imaginary glimpse of all the pretty girls trying to woo him in. Trust has never been an issue between them but for Nina this works like a source of excitement. They both come with a considerable experience of love and lust, and their relationship has grown fonder each day from the past 2 years. Where most people like to keep their past buried, Nina finds her pleasure in listening to Abhay’s naughty stories.

Tonight, Nina’s company would be her friend Risha. She is late and this gives Nina some more time to examine if her blue and black shoes are good to go with her blue and white dress. Those clouds finally burst. It’s a downpour but not wild enough to stop these girls from going out. They managed to tiptoe their way to the car without even a spot of rain or dirt on themselves. Clever girls. By the time they reach the venue, the mighty clouds had done their job and gone for good. To her surprise, the rain didn’t affect anyone in the city to stop them from unleashing their celebrative spirits. The club was quite full and Abhay looked like he had them all under his control. For most such nights, Nina lets her drinks do the talking and dancing.

While sipping her wine and moving to Abhay’s Godlike tunes, two girls (one quite pretty) block their view to get a better one themselves. Nina perks up at this, and finds pleasure in taking a step back and letting them have their fun. She didn’t know, until a few minutes later, that she herself was gaining popularity among a group of not-so-popular lads. Changing the spot felt like a good option and they did. Risha, feeling exhausted after just one drink, placed herself to a comfortable seat while Nina grooved cautiously now. With her glass almost empty.

“Why aren’t you dancing?” a voice hushed in her ear from behind. She turned to face a tall guy with an impressive stubble looking interestingly at her.
“That’s me dancing” she smiled turning him down politely.
Nina, in her twisted little mind, rewinds this conversation to see if there was a way of stretching it and turning it down a bit later. She looks at him again casually, reassuring her first instinct.

It is now a cuter face that walks to her with an ambitious smirk. “Can I buy you a drink?”
Straight from all the movies! She thinks. “Thanks, I just had one.”
“Well, let me buy you a second one then.” He insists.
“Ah, no. But thanks for asking.” She turns away and joins Risha who is in a deep thought. Eyeing her unusually serious mood, Nina shrugs away her intentions of throwing light on her recent encounters. They try to indulge in a hearty conversation over the second round of drinks but are interrupted by a rather cheerful group who seem to have been on a club hopping venture. Five boys, two girls - one dancing like crazy, other standing still. Nina couldn’t help but notice the latter, a lot. Black boots not moving an inch, dark denims, grey shirt, rimless glasses, perfect lips. Finally there was something that Nina was interested in. She wasn’t sure why but there was no rush. So she stared and spied. Specky’s friends tried hard to make her dance, one by one taking turns. She smiled to a few, ignoring their urge to loosen her up. Staring at her, all Nina could do was rehearse a simple question for the feeling was so new.

“So you obviously don’t dance; what do you do?” Nina makes a move on the girl.

Meet the freaking mind

I’m not a storyteller but I make a lot of them. There’s no reason behind my stories but I find myself living in them. It’s only when my heightened emotions dare themselves to look me in the eye, I realize it was a story where I left my conscious far behind.

Some minds are more imaginative than others, and I consider mine to belong in the former. Mind you, it’s not a good thing. The freedom to think without rational restrictions is dangerous. Questions like ‘How could you?’ don’t matter here.

The contents of this blog will mostly include:

  • Stories, for sure
  • Debates (the ones that you have with yourself)
  • Not-so-wise thoughts

You may find them abusive but they’re not. You may find them absurd, and they are.

Read at your own risk.
