Upside down (continued)

Specky was so used to the attention by the opposite sex that it took her a while to understand and formulate a response to Nina’s question. She gave a dazzling smile that assured Nina of her weird side.

“Umm, I’m more into soft rock.” says the specky loudly, trying to be audible behind the techno beats.
“But do you dance to that or you just like to stay still?” enquires the quite interested Nina.
“Oh yeah, I go crazy.”

Bam! Nina’s thoughts get a vivid picture of what crazy can be with her. She keeps her calm, turns to her friend, giving specky some awkward space, hoping that she would take the next step. Specky watches Nina go. Slightly disappointed, she turns to her dancing group who suddenly seemed over-energized. Dying for a break, she heads to the smoking zone and lights up a cigarette. Nina is trying hard to be a good friend but her focus is stuck somewhere else. Nina doesn’t smoke but right now the sight of those lips sucking up to that cigarette seems highly tempting. Lusting for their taste, her lips are quenching their thirst with drink number three. By now, Nina has forgotten all about her boyfriend who has by the way become everyone’s favorite DJ. The only emotion she is concerned about is the twinging that overpowers everything when her eyes meet hers from the glass of the smoking zone. The smoke dies and hopes rise.

Specky wasn’t just bored with her friends; she was actually taking time out to examine how she felt around and about Nina. She was debating on her intensions in her mind – friendly or flirtatious. She doesn’t conclude, for it may kill the charm. She mans up and takes the next step.

“You don’t seem to be enjoying either.” She tries.
“I don’t know” there is a pause “I’m distracted.” Nina knows how to flirt.

The dazzling smile is back, demanding Nina’s full attention – and there it goes. The smile quivers, breath uneven, eyes dancing from Nina’s lips to her eyes and back. There is no stopping Nina now. She moves closer to her lips, specky mirrors the action without thinking, without controlling. They kiss and the world goes still. No music, no people, no friends, no foes, only lips delving in the softness and tongues discovering depths.

A bell strikes her mind, and Nina is suddenly reminded of her boyfriend being in the same room. She runs a quick glance and returns satisfied back to her. She apologizes but the specky still looks smitten. A sense of victory streams through Nina like she had made her kill. Specky looks at her hopefully, waiting for her to say something. In her mind she is deciding on phone number or email ID but Nina doesn’t seem in a hurry. She notices Abhay walking towards them, and regains her senses as if brushing off that kiss from her mind.

“Hey baby, you were amazing!” Nina slides her arm around Abhay and turns to introduce them to each other. “This is Abhay, my boyfriend and the God for everyone here tonight.”
Specky’s jaw drops. She felt like a loser and a loner at the same time. “I’m Shreya”.
Nina expresses her acknowledgement to that rather passionately, and chirps “And I am Nina. It was really nice” she moves closer to her ear, close enough to smell her “kissing you.”

Nina walks away hand-in-hand with Abhay, straight out of the bar without looking back while specky stands still again, staring at the couple and feeling like a cheater.
